Akagera Park Headquarters

Image
9/20/2022 - Behind the Scenes at Akagera    I wasn't expecting this presentation to be so interesting when we first arrived at the park headquarters. In addition to monitoring for poachers, they tracked not only location, counts, and movement but daily health assessments. For me, this was scarier than anything else on the agenda.  We had to wear masks during our visits with the gorilla family and the golden monkeys to avoid infecting them. My group made the more strenuous 7-mile loop to observe the Titus family. Thank goodness we had porters to carry our backpacks and water. My porter, Jaqueline, was the only female porter assigned to our two groups. I trave
